Mokry-Mészáros, Dezső Sajóecseg, 1881 - 1970, Miskolc
He became acquainted with the microscopic world in the course of his studies at the Magyaróvár School of Agriculture, and his first drawings showed this experience. His artistic work was autodidactic. He travelled to Naples and Capri in 1908, where he met Maxim Gorky, who even bought a painting from him. He returned to Hungary in 1909, and showed his work at the Art House in the following year. Upon the insistence of his friends, especially Lajos Gulácsy, he moved to Paris for one year in 1911. In 1913 he set out on a long tour, which took in Tunis, Egypt, Ceylon and India. When he returned to Hungary in 1916 he gave up painting until 1924. He usually exhibited his work with members of the Association of Spiritual Artists. Most of his paintings and ceramic works draws upon the motives of the microcosmos, the archaic and prehistoric past, and the world of peasant culture.
