Share Id. Markó, Károly sr. 's profie

Festő, rajzoló. A magyar tájképfestészet nagy alakja. Mérnöki képzésben vett részt Kolozsvárott és Pesten. Apjától, Markó György mérnöktől tanult először rajzolni és festeni. Művészeti tanulmányokat 1818-tól Pesten, majd 1822-től a bécsi művészeti akadémián folytatott. 1830-1832 között Kismartonban, majd Gömörben dolgozott. 1832-ben Olaszországban telepedett le. Rómában élt és dolgozott 1832-1838 között. 1840-től a Magyar Tudományos Akadémia tagja. Firenzében telepedett le 1843-ban. A firenzei akadémia tiszteletbeli tanárává nevezte ki. 1847-től Villa Appeggiben, Firenze közelében élt. Tanítványain és a Műegylet tárlatain keresztül kapcsolatot tartott a hazai művészeti élettel. 1853-ban Pestre látogatott. 1861-ben hagyatékának nagy részét megvásárolta a Képcsarnok-egylet a Nemzeti Múzeum számára. Egy önarcképe a firenzei Uffizi képtárban található.
