Study

A magyar expresszionista

A Scheiber-életmű egyik legvonzóbb fejezetét azok a képek alkotják, amelyek a lehető leghitelesebben közvetítik alkotójuk lényegmegragadó képességét, virtuóz technikáját és a gyors alkotással együtt járó frissesség érzetét. „A grafikában néha egyenesen bravúroskezű művész” – írta róla a Periszkóp című avantgárd folyóirat 1925-ben, majd rövid ívet rajzolva addigi pályájáról így folytatta: „Valamikor az impresszionizmusból indult el, hogy pár évvel ezelőtt ráeszméljen a keresés szükségszerűségére, és megérezve e formavilág kiéltségét, a Cézanne-követés tapogatózásai után a művészi kifejezésnek egy olyan erőteljes nyelvét alakította ki egyéniségéből, amely a legtisztább expresszionizmus. […] Legérdekesebb alkotásai azok, ahol a szénrajz fekete-fehérje mellé beledob virtuóz módon egy-egy színt…, az éj terébe von néhány kusza színes vonalat.” A most bemutatott mű ezek közé a könnyű kézzel „feldobott”, bámulatos technikáról tanúskodó munkák közé tartozik, amelyek a múltban kevés figyelmet kapó, de a közeljövőben remélhetőleg önálló kötetben tárgyalt magyar expresszionizmus izgalmas fejezetét alkotják.

A Városliget művésze

„Budapest festése sohasem volt népszerű téma” – foglalta össze kutatásainak eredményét a 2004-ben megjelent Festői Budapest című kötet szerzője, Várnai Vera, akinek annak ellenére igazat kell adnunk, hogy az elmúlt közel két évszázadban szép számmal készültek a magyar főváros részleteit ábrázoló remekművek. Jó pár akadémikus ízlésű, topografikus hűségre törekvő alkotás született a város pazar látképéről és jellegzetes pontjairól, de kevés modern festő fordult rendszeresen, évtizedeken keresztül ehhez a kimeríthetetlen témához. Közülük is kiemelkedik Scheiber Hugó, akinek a magyar főváros jellegzetes utcái, terei és lakói jelentették a legfőbb inspirációs forrást.

A Tabán, a Városliget, a Margit híd, a Svábhegy, a Dunapart, a Keleti pályaudvar, a külvárosi gyárak sora, az Újpesti híd, a Vilmos császár út és a Gellérthegy csupán kiragadott példák a húszas és harmincas évek kiállítási katalógusainak képcímei közül. „Kedvenc helye a Liget volt, ahol padon ülő alakokat festett. Ide tért vissza újra és újra, amikor témahiánya volt.” Kádár Béla 1951-ben papírra vetett szavait festőbarátja, Scheiber Hugó korabeli kiállítási katalógusai maradéktalanul visszaigazolják: a Kertész utca 22.-ben lakó festő az Andrássy úton végiggyalogolva időről időre a Városligetben talált rá képeinek témájára. Leült kedvenc padjainak egyikére, rajztáblát fektetett a lábára, és utánozhatatlan technikával, egyszerre két kézzel rajzolva alkotta meg bámulatos formalátásról és utánozhatatlan mesterségbeli tudásról árulkodó műveit.
