Molnár, Farkas Pécs, 1897 - 1945, Budapest
From 1915 and 1917 he was a pupil of Ede Balló and Dezső Pécsi Pilch at the Academy of Fine Arts, then continued his studies as an architect at the Technical University of Budapest. In 1920 he was forced to give up his studies and return to his home-town. He participated in the Artists' Circle of Pécs and in the Group of 'Expressives'. In the Spring of 1921 he went to Italy along with Hugó Johan and Henrik Stefán and elaborated the sketches he made there after returning home. From 1921 to 1925 he studied at the Bauhaus in Weimar, visiting the courses of Johannes Itten, Kandinsky and Theo van Doesburg. In 1922 he made a lithographed portfolio entitled Italy together with Henrik Stefán. His abstracted compositions were published by Ma (Today) periodical in Vienna. Die Bühne im Bauhaus was the title of the book which appeared as the fourth of the Bauhausbücher series in 1925. The co-writers were Oscar Schlemmer and László Moholy-Nagy and he also worked with Walter Gropius. In 1925 he returned to Hungary, received his degree as an architect after two years and gave up his activity as a painter and graphic artist. He was elected as member of CIAM and was a founder of the Hungarian group CIRPAC.
