Madarász, Viktor Csetnek, 1830 - 1917, Budapest

Festő. Eredetileg jogásznak készült. Részt vett az 1848-as szabadságharcban. Bujdosni kényszerült a szabadságharc bukását követően. Pécsett folytatta jogi tanulmányait, s mellette festeni tanult Pósa Gusztáv vezetésével. A bécsi akadémián tanult 1853-1856 között, később Waldmüller magániskolájában. 1856-ban Párizsba költözött. Itt folytatta művészeti tanulmányait az École des Beaux Arts-on, később Léon Cogniet szabadiskolájában. A romantikus történelemi festészet kiemelkedő alakja. A Párizsi Szalon nagy aranyérmét nyerte el Hunyadi László siratása című művével. 1870-ig Párizsban élt. Hazatérte után inkább portréfestőként alkotott jelentős munkákat. Műveinek nagy része a Magyar Nemzeti Galériában található.
