A biedermeier festő a neves berlini Királyi Porcelánmanufaktúra igazgatójának fiaként tanult képzőművészetet Németországban. Apjához hasonlóan a porcelángyárnak dolgozott, precíz kidolgozottságú virágokat, gyümölcsöket, csendéleteket és népi jeleneteket festett. 1839-ben Thornban telepedett le rajztanárként. Önarcképét a berlini Alte Nationalgalerie őrzi.
