Elegáns körvonalakkal elkapott női szépség. Az éles rajzolatú áll, a szemöldökív és a frizura egyértelműen a második világháború időszakának egyes számú hősnőjét és divatikonját, Karády Katalint idézi. Az 1939-es Halálos tavasz című filmben Jávor Pál oldalán debütáló színésznő a végzet asszonyaként hódította meg a mozikat és színpadokat. Kevéssel korábban a Pesti Színház Az asszony és az ördög című Maugham-darabjában láthatta elsőként a közönség. „Karády Katalin – írta az előadásról a Délibáb kritikusa – új tehetség. Ez lesz az első színpadi szereplése. Aczél Ilona iskolájában tanult s bemutatkozása után leszerződtette a színház a darabnak a főszerepére. Az asszony és az ördögben ő az asszony. Nagyon érdekes arcú, Katherine Hepburn-höz hasonlít, a pesti színésznők közül senkire sem emlékeztet.” Nem tudjuk, hogy a festőnő, Móricz Margit találkozott-e az ünnepelt színésznővel, vagy csak a filmvásznon keresztül bűvölte el az egész korszakot meghatározó karaktere. Vagy magát Karádyt festette meg, vagy egy hozzá kísértetiesen hasonló másik „femme fatale”-t, aki az 1940 körül az országot elborító rajongói hullám szellemében vágatta frizuráját „karádysra”.

Móricz Margit az egyre divatosabb két világháború közötti női festészetnek a közelmúltban felfedezett egyik tehetsége. Vaszary János és Benkhard Ágoston tanítványaként járt a modernizált szellemiségű Képzőművészeti Főiskolára a húszas években. 1926-ban elnyerte a Szinyei Társaság díját az ifjúsági kiállításon. Ezután külföldi tanulóévek következtek: három-három év Párizsban és Algériában. Hazai debütálása sikeres volt, 1938–39-re elnyerte a Római Ösztöndíjat. 1942-ben a Műbarátban állított ki, majd hosszabb kényszerkihagyás következett: legközelebb csak a hatvanas években jutott kiállítási lehetőséghez. A Magyar Nemzet kritikusa írta 1966-os kiállításáról: „Móricz Margit egykor Vaszary János tanítványa volt, s a vázlatos frissességű, közvetlen hangú Vaszary-képek elevensége fontos útmutatást jelentett számára. A művek kompozíciós alapját a hajlékonyan kanyargó kontúrvonalak adják, s e játékos könnyedségű rajzot a pasztellszínek csak lazán követik, nekiiramodva és el-elmaradva fogják körül a formákat. A rajz és a színek foltjai közt szabadon áramlik az üresen hagyott tér, fény és levegő itatja át így a kompozíciókat.” A „vaszaryánus” festőiség érhető tetten a most vizsgált alkotás elegáns kéklő kontúrjaiban és érzékenyen modelláló színfoltjaiban.
