Leszkovszky György Budapest, 1891 - 1968
György Leszkovszky was born in Budapest in 1891. As a student of Aladár Körösfői-Kreisch, he studied decorative painting and became a master of wet wall painting techniques. From 1913, he was an assistant teacher at the National School of Applied Arts, and from 1922, he taught figure drawing and industrial design. In addition to decorative and fresco painting, he created illustrations, stained glass windows, posters, and flag designs, and also undertook other industrial art and design tasks.
His style is characterized by elements of Art Nouveau and historicism. In 1913, he joined the Gödöllő artists' colony, working alongside Körösfői in Zebegény and Temesvár. He participated in painting the cultural palace in Marosvásárhely. Leszkovszky also designed the tapestry decorations for Trinity Square, the 14 stained glass windows of the Rákóczianum, and painted the murals of the chapel of the new János Hospital, the decorations and triumphal arch fresco of the Rókus Chapel, and the murals of the chapel in Rómaifürdő.
He was a founding member of the Cennini Society, an organization dedicated to reviving medieval techniques. In the 1950s, he mainly worked in restoration.
During his more than 50 years of creative activity, he won numerous awards, including the Károly Lotz Gold Medal and the State Drawing Prize. He died in Budapest in 1968.
