Study

This painting is dated 1882 in Anna Szinyei Merse oeuvre catalogue (Lot. No. 141.). This year is a turning point in the artist's life. He returned back to the artistic public life, painted actively, exhibited in Vienna and Budapest. "Pacsirta", one of the most famous of his paintings was exhibited in 1882.

The picture "Before bathing" is undoubtedly related to the nude studies of the period 1878-1882, and thus this is a characteristic example of the painter's short but intense artistic period.
