Festő. 1819-től a debreceni kollégiumban tanult, első mestere Beregszászi Pál volt. A bécsi
Képzőművészeti Akadémia történeti festészeti szakán képezte magát, ahol Barabás
Miklóssal kötött ismeretséget. Járt Németországban, Svájcban és Itáliában. Előbb Szentesen,
majd Debrecenben működött arcképfestőként. 1837-től Pesten működött. A Pesti Műegylet
alapító tagjai közt tevékenykedett. 1846-ban állította ki Jablonczai Pethes János búcsúja
leányától a leopoldvári tömlöcben című festményét, amelyet a szabadságharc bukása
után, megrendelésre, többször megfestett. 1847-től a Nemzeti Múzeum képtárának
őre. A Magyar Nemzeti Galéria őrzi néhány munkáját.
