Festő. Id. Markó Károly legidősebb fia. Bal szemére megvakult egy gyerekkori baleset következtében. A bécsi Képzőművészeti Akadémia tájképfestészeti szakán tanult 1836-tól. 1838-ban édesanyjával és testvéreivel együtt Pisába költözött, ahol id. Markó Károly élt. Apja irányításával folytatta festészeti tanulmányait. Rómában járt 1843-ban. 1851-1854 között Bécsben töltött hosszabb időt. Bécsi tárlatokon több alkalommal szerepelt. 1854-1885 között ismét Olaszországban élt. Firenzében 1845-től állított ki. Tiszteletbeli tanárává nevezte ki a firenzei, az urbinói és a peruggiai akadémia. Több olasz városban rendszeresen kiállított. Felesége halála után Moszkvába költözött, követve két tanítványát. Hazai közgyűjteményben a Magyar Nemzeti Galériában találhatók művei, külföldön Firenzében és Milánóban.
